"It's a well known scientific fact that, starting in June, the Sun moves farther and farther south every day, and that unless lots of people get together with singing, feasting, and general merriment, it might just keep on going and never come back. This was a widespread belief ages before the advent of Christianity, and early Christian leaders wisely decided to maintain the dates of some of these ‘Pagan’ celebrations while changing the reasons for them. Lacking any accurate historical data as to the actual birthdate of Jesus, they placed this very important Christian observance at the time of the Winter Solstice."
